Our commitment to the education of New Yorkers begins long before freshman year of college. CUNY, through its Collaborative Programs, invests substantial resources in the service of public school students and out-of-school youth, reaching a diverse population that includes first-generation college goers and groups historically underrepresented in higher education.

Curriculum & Professional Development

Collaborative Programs staff strive to create clearly-articulated learning goals connected with coordinated formative and summative assessments that allow students to reflect on their learning and academic achievement. In addition, our pre-college curricula is defined by thoughtful scaffolding and sequencing of assignments, support for the development of academic literacies and conceptual understanding, and the use of instructional strategies such as modeling and Cognitive Apprenticeship. While rigorous and engaging curricula provide an important foundation for our programs, we also focus on creating supportive structures for teachers and advisors. By soliciting input from the instructors in our programs, we create feedback processes that allow opportunities for critical reflection and professional development.
